Norma and Mike Delano opened The Country House in Snow Hill, Maryland in October 1985. Mike, a former agricultural fertilizer salesman, and Norma, a second grade teacher, had previously done craft shows each year to showcase their handmade products and decorating items. Norma had quit teaching in 1972 to be a stay-at-home mom to Christy and Jenny, and as the girls grew older, she painted and sewed crafts. The positive response they received at the Snow Hill store prompted them to move to a larger location in Salisbury, MD. After expanding to 5,000 sq. feet, they eventually purchased the current 48,000 sq. foot building, which was originally a shirt factory built in the 1930s. The building required extensive repairs, which the family, including grandparents and carpenter friends, worked on to prepare it for use as a store.

In the early 2000's, The Country House Collection had an opportunity to develop fabric curtains and linens in India. Christy and Jenny joined their parents in building this collection, which now includes a wide selection of metal pieces and household goods. The products are woven with a combination of sage, cream, and red to create a plaid design and are manufactured with high-quality materials to ensure durability.
